How to make pumpkin spice hot chocolate at home
In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it is warm but not boiling.
Any temperature between about 120-180 is fine, if you’re checking with a thermometer. If you don’t have a thermometer, that’s okay. The milk will start to get frothy looking right before it boils. If you see this, turn down the heat.
Stir in the cocoa powder and whisk until combined.
Add in the sugar and mix until dissolved.
Add pumpkin and mix until smooth. Don’t let the milk boil. If the milk is getting too hot, remove it from the heat while you stir.
Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. This recipe makes two one cup servings. Top generously with whipped cream and sprinkle with extra pumpkin pie spice or chocolate shavings for garnish.
Serve hot and enjoy the comforting flavors of fall!
Feel free to adjust the sweetness and spice level to suit your taste.
