I use local, grass-fed whole milk for all my coffee drinks. This recipe can be made with your milk or non-dairy milk substitute of choice, but I think the creaminess of full milk is perfect for this drink.

This recipe is written with peppermint extract. This isn’t the same thing as peppermint oil, but you can swap a food grade peppermint oil if that’s what you prefer to use.
Please note that peppermint oil way stronger than peppermint extract! This means you’ll only need a few drops of peppermint oil. Start with 1 drop of peppermint oil and adjust to taste. You probably won’t want more than 3-4 drops, at most.

How to make your own peppermint mocha
First, brew your coffee. I like to make a double espresso but let a little extra water run through it to make a full 8 oz.
Next, heat your milk. You can do this in the microwave, but it’s more likely to become scorched. I use a small saucepan of medium/medium-low heat to heat the milk until it’s steaming but not boiling.
Now it’s time to combine the ingredients! In a large mug, combine the coffee, chocolate syrup, and peppermint extract. Whisk to combine or use a frother.

Add in the milk. Use a spoon to hold the foam back if you prefer a layered effect or pour it all in for a creamy blend.

Garnish your peppermint mocha with homemade whipped cream, crushed candy canes, and/or chocolate!

Enjoy immediately to revel in the delicious chocolatey peppermint flavor. =)
