The Month Ahead

Hi, everyone!

I just wanted to share a bit about my month and plans for the rest of the month, because they will definitely end up affecting my blog. No matter how much I might wish or hope otherwise, I know it isn’t realistic to think that I’ll have the same post schedule for the rest of the month because things are so crazy busy.

As I briefly mentioned in an earlier post, I’m teaching a class on Skillshare! A couple of folks who work for Skillshare found my blog via Craftgawker and invited me to participate in their September Teach Challenge. The challenge includes classes on ways to create and market your class, and if you meet deadlines (create your class topic, make an outline, etc) on time, you receive a bonus to make it worth your time to create the class. This is super exciting and I’m thrilled to be teaching on Skillshare, but it’s also a little tricky for me. The class needs to be published by the end of the month, but I’m going to be off island for the final week of the month! This means I need to have my class finished by the end of next week!

Why will I be busy the final week of September? Well, again, I’ve quickly mentioned it, but I’m heading to Brooke Shaden’s Promoting Passion convention. Brooke Shaden is an inspirational creative fine art photographer and the convention looks amazing. Plus, it’s being held at a castle. Seriously – there is a castle called Glen Eyrie in Colorado Springs. The conference schedule is jam-packed from breakfast and yoga in the morning with workshops and discussions until 10 pm!

A really good book

Then, of course, there’s trying to get Etsy holiday listings ready. I had people start asking for Christmas stockings in August this year! I have a couple new fabrics to make sample stockings with and new ornament ideas to try, and I like to have holiday offerings listed by the beginning of October. Last year I didn’t sell many holiday items in October, but they did get lots of “hearts” and I had plenty of November and December sales, so I think having everything up “early” was beneficial. I’ll probably also re-photograph some of last year’s offerings to fix issues like this crooked photo (that I can’t just correct by rotating the picture due to the stocking’s position so close to edges of the frame. Not really sure what I was thinking when I took this!).

Because of all this, there may be a few missed posts here and there. It’s really hard for me to skip posts, but I’m trying to get better at the whole blog/work/life balance thing. When my husband was constantly away on a submarine, it didn’t really matter if I worked on things all day long, but with him home it’s more important for me to keep my weekends and evenings at least mostly free. I know there will be times when this is totally impossible during the holiday season, so I need to try extra hard to protect “us” time during the next couple of months while I can!

Is your fall and holiday season already looking pretty busy, too?

You do sound busy, but everything you are doing also sounds fun! When I am busy like this, blogging takes a back seat for me, too. You have to be gentle on yourself and recognize when there are limitations, I think.
