I like to use Enjoy Life brand chocolate chips because they’re delicious and don’t have any funky ingredients (they're also gluten free). They're available online, but they usually cost less at a local grocery store.
Mini chocolate chips melt more easily than full sized ones, but you can use whatever size or brand you have on hand.
This recipe does use a small amount of ready made egg nog. You can make your own following your favorite recipe or use store bought. This recipe will elevate your experience, no matter which option you go with!
As written, this eggnog recipe is non alcoholic so your whole family can enjoy it. Feel free to spike it if that's your style.

Ingredients needed for easy hot chocolate eggnog
- ¾ cup of milk. I use and recommend local whole milk. It’s so delicious and creamy!
- ¼ cup of eggnog (my favorite is Alexandre Farms A2/A2 eggnog)
- 2 tablespoons chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
- ½ tablespoon cocoa powder (optional, for added chocolate flavor. Don’t use unprocessed cacao powder because it won’t mix in)
- 1 teaspoon brown sugar (to taste, optional)
- ⅛ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Whipped cream for topping. I make my own homemade whipped cream.
- Additional cinnamon (for garnish, optional)
- A sprinkling of nutmeg, optional
- Caramel syrup, candy canes, chocolate spirals, or any other garnish you desire =)
- USDA Certified Organic Culinary Grade Cocoa Powder - Batch Tested Gluten Free
- Batch Tested and Verified Gluten Free
- Dutch-Processed (Alkalized) Cocoa with a high-fat content of 20-22%

How to make easy hot chocolate eggnog
First, combine the milk and eggnog in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until it starts to steam, but don't let it boil.

Stir in the chocolate chips and cocoa powder, mixing until the chocolate chips are melted and the mixture is smooth.

Add sugar to taste, along with the vanilla extract. Stir to combine.

Continue heating the mixture until it's hot and steaming, but not boiling, stirring frequently so it doesn’t scorch.

Pour the hot chocolate into a mug. Top with whipped cream and sprinkle a little cinnamon and/or nutmeg on top if desired.

Enjoy your cozy winter drink!
