Rules of sudoku

Sudoku has simple rules: fill in the missing numbers so that each number is used exactly once in each horizontal and vertical line. The numbers used are based on the grid size. This means a 4x4 grid uses the numbers 1-4.

These are smaller puzzles than classic sudoku grids, which are 9x9 and use the numbers 1-9. The printables on this page are easy puzzles compared to a classic size.

Sudoku puzzles are a great way to teach, or practice, deductive reasoning as you, or your younger children, use the process of elimination to determine the correct numbers.

Use these puzzles as part of your math lesson plans or as a fun at home activity! Fun games can be powerful tools for teaching.

Even though these printable sudoku puzzles all have a 4x4 grid, the number of empty cells varies. This changes the level of difficulty. More numbers prefilled makes an easier puzzle. Fewer numbers filled creates harder puzzles, even within the same size sudoku grid.

There are three different difficulty levels of puzzle on this page: easy level, medium level, and difficult level. There are also special kid sudoku puzzles with fun images.

Each page is available in PDF format and includes the answer key. As noted above, these are small grids so there are four puzzles on each page.
