I am a planner and a list maker.
A month before we left for West Virginia, I kew exactly what stores we needed to visit before leaving Pittsburg, what order we'd go to them in, and had a separate shopping list for each. Hmmm...after writing that I realized it makes me seem like a bit of a control freak! That's not it at all. I like to be as prepared as possible because I'm horrible and remembering things if I don't write them down somewhere and because life can be unpredictable.
I find it easiest to quickly adjust to the unexpected when I have a clear picture of what I'm doing any why. Also, I usually already have a backup plan in mind... {{As a Navy wife, backup plans for when things don't go as expected are kind of my speciality.}}
Anyway, my love of planning ahead and recognition that things don't always go as planned is why we started preparing for birth before the end of my second trimester.
After research and careful consideration, we decided to purchase the Hypnobabies home study course and have been diligently putting in our daily practice ever since! As part of my preparations for our birthing time (the Hypnobabies term for 'labor') I decided to create a "peace" coloring page.
Although the word "peace" is an important hypnotic cue word in the Hypnobabies program, I thought the design was also pretty generally applicable and something other folks might enjoy using, so I decided to share my are printable peace coloring page with y'all today!
I enjoyed working on this coloring page while listening to my daily joyful pregnancy affirmations and plan to bring it with me as a visual reminder during our birthing time. I used a lot of oranges because the color orange also plays a significant role in Hypnobabies, but if you're coloring 'just for fun' you can obviously select a completely different color scheme! I purposefully did not photograph my page completely colored for this post so that I wouldn't accidentally influence your idea of what it "should" look like.
Unlike most of my printables, which I store in the special 'printables for members' area, I decided to make this peace coloring page available to everyone right here. If you'd like to stay up to date with The Artisan Life and access my other printables, please become a member using the box below this post. I currently send out a max of 2 emails a month so things are very low-key around here.
I highly recommend printing your peace coloring page on cardstock. I really like coloring on cardstock because it's thicker than normal paper (obviously) and it also tends to be smoother, which I like for coloring.
Using cardstock also allows you to color with markers, which doesn't always work out with plain paper. I used my Prismacolor colored pencils because they're so rich and creamy but I was very tempted to break out my Copic markers. I ended up going with pencils because I had a greater variety of oranges and yellows to choose from.
Again, in case you missed the link above, you can download your free printable peace coloring page right here.
Alright, I'm sure some of you are wondering what on Earth this Hypnobabies thing is, so now that I've shared the coloring page let me tell you a little bit about the program. There are no watches or pendulums involved - it's a complete childbirth education course that involves learning self-hypnosis, deep relaxation, and reprograming your mind to expect positive things. You can also learn more by clicking right here.
The course includes a wealth of up-to-date, evidence-based information about pregnancy and birth. Even though I'm still pregnant at the time of writing this so I can't share any insight into birth with Hypnobabies, I know the program has been incredibly beneficial to me so far. It's helped me be noticeably more calm at appointments and the partner exercises have helped my husband get involved/encouraged open communication between us. Also, I've never been a 'good' sleeper (and obviously I'm waking up a zillion times a night because I'm third trimester pregnant!), but both the regular Hypnobabies tracks and some supplemental extras I purchased have helped me to get sleep much more quickly than 'usual' most nights. I've used several other sleep mediations and used white noise apps over the years and none of them have come close to working as well for me as the Hypnobabies tracks. I zonked out half way through the first time listening to my "peaceful sleep" track vs playing my 'old' mediation two or three times in a row before falling asleep! Because they have 'extra' tracks you can purchase individually for sleep, releasing stress, boosting concentration, and more, Hypnobabies isn't just for expectant/new parents. If you've struggled with sleep or stress and haven't found success with other podcasts/music/mediations, I highly recommend you check out their store.
Whether or not you're using Hypnobabies, I hope that you enjoy using this lively printable peace coloring page!

ha! I am a list maker as well ... I have lists all over the place, and that is exactly why I use them as well as I forget if I don't put it on the list. I have them in the office for work, at home for my jewelry, and shopping, and well pretty much everything! Glad to hear the pregnancy is going well - you look amazing!

It's nice to hear I'm not the only one who can't keep track of things without lists! And thank you. =)
