Quickly make these tic tac toe game boards reusable when you slide the pages into dry erase pockets. This makes it easy for kids to play over and over. You can also laminate the page and turn it into a file folder game.

Materials needed to play unicorn tic tac toe

You don't need much to use these unicorn tic tac toe printables! Here's a look at what you'll need:

• Your free printable PDF file (look for the row of purple arrows lower down in the post)
• Printer access and paper or card stock
  • I recommend bright white 32lb paper to make sure your unicorns are extra beautiful
• Laminator or dry erase pocket, optional
• Scissors or paper trimmer
• Hook and loop dots (such as Velcro dots) or poster putty, optional
• Task box or file folders, optional

To prepare your game, print out your desired game board and corresponding pieces.

Laminate the game piece cards before cutting, then cut out the reusable game pieces with scissors or a paper trimmer.

Laminate the board or slide it into a dry erase pocket. This is optional, but helps the game be much more durable. Cut the two-up game boards down to size, if desired. This allows them to be placed in a task box.

If you'd like, place hook and loop dots in the center of each square on the game board and on the back of each game piece.

A laminated game board can be taped into a folder to make a file folder game. The two to a page boards can be used in a task box.

​How to play tic tac toe

Tic tac toe is a straightforward game, but just in case you don't know the rules:

• The first player begins by making an X in one of the game board squares.
• The second player makes an O in one of the open squares.
• Play continues until one player makes three in a row (horizontally, diagonally, or vertically) or all places are taken.
• The player who gets three in a row wins. If no one gets three in a row, lots of people say "the cat won."

The winner of the previous game usually gets to go first for the next game. You can play until one person wins three games of tic tac toe, or keep going until no one wants to play or the available time is up.
