This word search puzzle is a bit different from others I've shared. I decided to make two versions - one is in portrait orientation with a large letter grid. The other page is in landscape orientation with the same word list and letter grid, but with the letter grid physically smaller with a coloring page beside it. Please let me know if you like these new format by leaving a comment!

Benefits of word search puzzles
Using a printable word puzzle isn't just a "busywork" way to fill the time. Word search games can help teach and reinforce vocabulary, encourage attention to detail, and improve fine motor skills. They're developmentally appropriate for kids and a great way to maintain the cognitive abilities of older adults. There's no age limit on who can enjoy a word search!
There are many ways to use word puzzles at home or in the classroom. Here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Leave in in your sub plan activities
- Use it for early finishers/as a fast finisher activity
- Make several copies, slide them into dry erase pockets to make them reusable, and use them as literacy center activities
- Use it as morning work or as a bell ringer
- Use it for independent work or as part of an English Language Arts lesson
- Have a family fun game night to see who can find the entire list of words first

How to use a printable word search puzzle
First, you'll need to download your printable PDF lower down on the page. Look for the row of purple arrows pointing at the button with the text "click here to download your free printables."
Next, print as many copies of the puzzle as you want. Make sure you only select the word search page so you don't end up with too many answer keys!
If you want to make the puzzles reusable for classroom use or repeated use at home, slide each page into a dry erase pocket or heavy duty sheet protector. Page protectors are slightly less durable, but easier to keep organized in a three ring binder.
- Package includes 6 dry erase pocket sleeves in 6 bright colors, which are red, green, yellow, orange, pink, and blue.
- Mr. Pen dry erase pocket sleeves are made with durable and long-lasting PET plastic with industrial-grade stitching according to the highest quality...
- Our dry erase pockets measure 10 x 14 inches, which makes them perfect for storing most sizes of paper or student activity sheets.
Enjoy! The hidden words can be horizontal, vertical, and diagonal. Make sure to remind your students to cross off each word in the word bank as it is found. I've seen a surprising number of students who haven't realized this makes things a lot easier!
