This free printable board game for summer features two versions. One has image-based cards for younger children and the other version has text-based cards for kids who are learning how to read.
Both versions play on the same printable board game and use the same printable die template. This game uses a die with numbers for children learning to recognize numbers. You can use a "normal" die with pips if your child is ready for it.
There are 12 words in each card set. The images below show just one page from each type:

- Your free printable PDF (look for the row of purple arrows lower down in the post)

Placing the board game in a dry erase pocket makes the game more durable, but isn't mandatory.
Summer kid's board game: how to play
Download your PDF file and print the pages you need. You may want to print either the image cards or the text cards, but not both. I recommend using heavy duty paper or card stock.
Cut out the game pawns and cards. You can cut out the paper die template and tape it together, or use a die you already have. Place the game board in a dry erase pocket or page protector (optional).
Place the cards face down. Use either the visual or the reading cards.
Have the first player draw a card and say its name or read the word.
- If they say or read the card correctly, they roll the die.
- The player then moves their pawn on the board according to the number shown on the die.
The first player to arrive at "Finish" wins.
To prolong game play, use the additional rules:
- Yellow spaces: Go back 3 spaces.
- Blue spaces: Move forward 2 spaces.
