This set of Fourth of July play dough mats includes 12 images in both color and black and white. If your child or students aren't ready to practice their letters, you can skip the word tracing section.
My daughter loves play dough and has a Play Doh ice cream maker that encourages you to mix colors. Instead of buying lots of Play Doh that will get mixed immediately, I bought a bag of Costco flour and some food coloring to make my own.
I have a no-fail recipe for homemade play dough that stays soft for an incredibly long time. Stop by this blog post with play dough alphabet mats to see the diy play dough recipe!

Materials needed for play dough mats
You don't need much to use these Fourth of July play dough mats. Here's a look at the supplies you'll need:
- Your free printable (look for the row of purple arrows lower down in the post)
- Printer access & paper or card stock
- Laminator or page protectors/dry erase pockets
- Page protectors are easier to keep organized, dry erase pockets are more durable
- A dry or wet erase marker or, our favorite Stabilo Woodies
- Package includes 6 dry erase pocket sleeves in 6 bright colors, which are red, green, yellow, orange, pink, and blue.
- Mr. Pen dry erase pocket sleeves are made with durable and long-lasting PET plastic with industrial-grade stitching according to the highest quality...
- Our dry erase pockets measure 10 x 14 inches, which makes them perfect for storing most sizes of paper or student activity sheets.
We love our Stabilo Woodies. They are a large dry erase crayon that you can use to write, color, and draw. They also have a little more friction than a marker, which makes them better for improving fine motor strength.
- Washable
- XXL lead applies as much pigment as 8 colored pencils at once
- Large width ideal for smaller hands
How to use play dough mats with kids
These 4th of July play dough mats are very easy to use. Your child, or students, makes play dough "snakes" and lays them out to cover each image.
Each page has the appropriate vocabulary word in a tracing font for your child to trace with a marker or something like a Stabilo Woody crayon.
Although you don't absolutely have to protect the pages, sliding each one into a dry erase pocket/page protector (or laminating it) makes the pages last a lot longer. I recommend using dry erase pockets for ease and durability.
