    DIY Puffy Sidewalk Paint

    Published: May 31, 2026

    • Share

Kids love bright colors and drawing on things. When my daughter ran out of sidewalk chalk recently, we decided to mix things up a bit with some puffy sidewalk paint!

This DIY sidewalk paint is a fun sensory experience and an easy craft that kids can help make. I hope you enjoy!

Sidewalk paint is a lot of fun for kids, but it's also beneficial. Using these puffy sidewalk paints can help your little learner:

    • Improve his/her fine motor skills while creating drawings
    • Strengthen hand and finger muscles by squeezing
    • Practice letters, numbers, and colors in a hands-on way

These paints are a super fun activity to go along with reading a book like I Ain't Gunna Paint no More! It's a super fun book about making creative messes and you can sing along to the tune of "ain't gunna rain no more."

    Puffy Sidewalk Foam Paint Ingredients

    Prep Time: 5 minutes

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup all-purpose flour (120 g)
    • ยฝ cup water (120 ml)
    • 1 tablespoon dish soap (Clear)
    • Food coloring

You will also need a condiment style squeeze bottle for each color of paint you plant to make. We like the kind that has an attached cap so the little protective cover doesn't get lost.

    3. Divide mixture into separate bowls. You will need one bowl per color.

    4. Add food coloring to each color section and mix gently. The exact amount of color needed will depend on your food coloring and how many times you divide your base mixture.

    5. Pour into squeeze bottles. A funnel is very helpful for this task.

    6. Squeeze onto dry pavement or concrete to create colorful puffy drawings and shapes.

This paint is so much fun for practicing number and letter recognition!

When play time is over, just wash your paint away with a hose or by pouring water on it!

This paint works best on a dry surface, so you won't be able to re-use a washed section of driveway or sidewalk right away.

It also works really well on old cardboard boxes and can be used on paper, too.
