Free Printable Car Theme Fine Motor Tracing Strips

These car themed free printable fine motor practice pages are such a fun way to improve your little one’s hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills! Your child will love zooming along inside the “road” path with their favorite crayon, or even just a finger.

It’s easy to use these prewriting printables as a no-prep activity when you just print them out and let your child trace away

You can also make the activity reusable by laminating the pages or placing them in page protectors for use with a dry erase marker. It’s easy to cut the laminated pages into strips that you slip onto a binder ring for a go-bag activity that easy to sanitize.

No mater how you decide to use these printable car fine motor practice pages, your car-loving little learner is going to adore them. Mine sure does!

Four free printable car fine motor tracing pages shown on a light blue background with colorful children's markers. Each page has four road-like paths to trace for fine motor practice. Each path has two colorful watercolor cars - one at the left side of the road and one on the right.

How to print and use fine motor tracing pages

This set has four different pages to print and trace with a combination of straight, wavy, and zig-zag paths to trace.

These are trace inside the path pages, which makes them perfect for little learners who are still practicing their pencil control and fine motor skills.

Materials needed:

  • Free printables (download information is located lower in the post)
  • Paper and a printer. I recommend 32 lb bright white paper for crisp, beautiful images, especially if you’re going to make the pages reusable. This paper is also heavier and stands up better to vigorous learning.
  • Laminator, dry erase pockets, or page protectors. Optional.
    • I love my inexpensive home laminator.
    • Instead of dry erase pockets, I usually use “secure” page protectors. They’re sturdier than regular page protectors and have a flap to keep the page inside.
  • Scissors or paper cutter, if you want to make strips. I laminated these car tracing pages and cut them into strips to bring to a doctor’s appointment. When the strips are laminated, they’re easy to wipe down the sanitizing wipes.
  • Binder rings, optional for an easy go-bag activity or less mess at home.
  • Crayons, pencils, markers, etc. for tracing
    • Markers provide less friction and can be easier to use.
    • Pencils and crayons have more friction and can provide a greater challenge. We like Honeyscticks beeswax crayons because the colors are easy to see and they’re taste-safe.
    • Your child can also fill the line with small manipulatives, like pompoms, using a pair of plastic tweezers.
    • And, of course, your little one can drive along the road with their favorite car!

How to use prewriting trace in the path pages

First, download your free printables from lower down the page. You’ll see a big, blue image that reads “click here to download” with a preview of the car tracing pages in the upper right corner.

Print the pages you want. Laminate and cut pages if you want to make strips or place the sheets in page protectors if you want to make them reusable.

If your child is new to this type of activity, demonstrate tracing inside a few lines. These road paths are perfect for introducing prewriting tracing pages. The wide path with a dotted line down the middle make these car theme tracing pages easy to use.

Another fun way to use these car tracing paths is with small manipulatives like pompoms, balls of play dough, or mathlinks cubes. This can be a great choice for children who are having trouble tracing or who need a new activity to hold their attention.

For an added challenge, have your child use plastic tweezers or small tongs to place the manipulatives. Then you can count the manipulatives together, too! There are so many learning activities you can do with this set of free printables.
