How to use directed drawing worksheets with young children
Each of the pages in this worksheet pack breaks down a different drawing into easy steps. Each worksheet page also has a large square to draw the image in, space to trace the corresponding winter vocabulary word, and lines to free write the word.
This set of directed drawing pages has 12 different images to draw.
Each image has five steps to draw the picture. The drawing tutorial adds on step by step to create a finished image your child or students will be proud of!
You can pick and choose from the pages to find something that suits your child or student's skill level and interest.
The earmuffs and mitten are the easiest. The snowman is also fairy easy, in spite of the details, because it's a familiar shape children are likely to have drawn before. The ice skate and coat are the most challenging.
There are several different ways to use these worksheets. Here are some ideas to get you started:
- Use them as a no-prep fine motor and language arts activity
- Use them for early finishers
- Laminate the pages or slide them into dry erase pockets for use in classroom centers
- Leave them for your sub plans
- Display finished artwork on your classroom bulletin board
- Have kids color in their finished drawing and/or the drawing steps
Using dry erase pockets or page protectors is an easy way to make these pages reusable. Provide your child or students with a fine tip dry erase marker, not a broad chisel tip.
