This project is the perfect craft for winter. Here are a few ideas for ways to use this printable cut and paste craft:
- As a fun activity to go along with a library activity such as reading Tacky the Penguin or Spike
- As an accompaniment to watching Happy Feet with your whole family
- To make a paper bag or stick puppet
- As part of a lesson plan about the Antarctic or winter animals
- As an art project
- To add a hands-on component to your penguin unit
Younger children (preschool and pre-k) may need adult supervision and assistance to cut out the smaller pieces. Most kindergarten and first grade students should be able to cut out the shapes on their own.
The eyebrow pieces are the trickiest to cut out. Younger learners may want to draw eyebrows, instead. The beak can also be drawn on, if preferred.

Pom poms or cotton balls can be glued to the penguin's belly. You can also use colorful sand or glitter on the body or belly. Glue the belly piece onto the black body before adding any embellishments.
