Easy project idea step-by-step instructions
My daughter and I did several crafts with these templates. Here are a few of the activities we did with the free winter hat printout.
Wax resist craft
Print out the large hat template. Make sure to use a laser printer or copier. I recommend using card stock, if your printer can handle it without getting jammed.
Use a white crayon to decorate the hat template. My daughter insisted that white crayons don't do anything, but I told her I had a surprise that would work like magic!
Next, grab watercolor paints and paint away! The paint will not stick where the crayon was applied. This technique is called wax resist and is now batik fabric is traditionally created.
After the paint is dry, you can decorate the hat further with glue and pom poms, cotton balls, glitter. etc. My daughter wanted to paint the entire hat and didn't want to apply anything else.
Easy hat shape gift tags
To make gift tags, print out the page of small winter hat templates. We used our favorite HP 32# premium paper because it's more durable than plain copy paper.
Color them and punch a hole at the top of the pom pom on the top to string baker's twine or yarn through.
Winter hat garland
You'll also want the page of small hats for a winter hat garland. Color in the hats, adding decorations if you'd like.
Use a small hole punch to punch two holes along the upper portion of each hat's pom pom. A 1/16" hole punch is great for making garland.
String yarn or baker's twine through the holes, as shown. String up yoru garland and enjoy! It's a fun winter craft idea to liven up your classroom or bulletin board.
