How to print and use preschool number tracing worksheets
You can simply print the pages off and hand them over to your little learner, but here are a few tips to help you make the most of your time and ensure your child has a great learning experience.
How to make worksheets reusable
We frequently think of tracing pages as being single use items, but you can make preschool worksheets reusable. You can:
Making pages reusable saves you time and paper because you can print once and have your child use the same page multiple times. You can even stash the page away for use another year with a different child.
Laminating requires the most time and effort, but laminated pages are the most durable. If you have a young child at home, a laminator quickly pays for itself compared to the cost of laminating pages at an office supply store. I use my inexpensive at home laminator frequently.
- LAMINATING MACHINE: One Scotch TL901X Thermal Laminator to help you protect frequently used documents up to 9 in. wide
- PROFESSIONAL FINISH: Two heated rollers with two temperature settings create bubble- and wrinkle-free results that give your documents, photos and...
- FAST LAMINATING: Laminates one letter-size page per minute and has a release lever for quick pouch release to save you time
Dry erase pockets are basically super strength page protectors. They’re large, durable, and popular in preschool classrooms.
Instead of dry erase pockets, I usually use “secure” heavy duty page protectors. They’re thicker than normal page protectors and have a flap to help keep the page inside. It’s easy to keep pages organized when you can put them in a three ring binder!
- Keep contents secure in the protective sleeve with convenient top flap; perfect for holding nonstandard size papers and important items
- Get a crisp, clear view of the contents of your documents with diamond clear page protectors featuring a polished finish for high clarity
- Ensure your documents stay protected with long-lasting super heavyweight sheet protectors for all of your frequently referenced items
Whether you laminate or use a page protector, it’s easy for your child to trace and erase the numbers time and time again. You can use a dry erase marker or a Stabilo Woody 3-in-1 colored pencil. We love our Woody pencils and even use them for reusable coloring pages! Stop by this post with free printable dinosaur coloring pages to see Stabilo Woody pencils in action. They color really well on laminated pages and they don’t have ink to stain or stink.
Dry erase markers erase themselves when you write over previously written numbers. Stabilo Woody pencils don’t do this, which means you can create reusable rainbow writing pages.
- XXL lead applies as much pigment as 8 colored pencils at once
- Large width ideal for smaller hands
What is rainbow writing?
Several of these number tracing printables are great for something called “rainbow writing.”
Rainbow writing is a technique where your child traces the same thing multiple times in a different color each time. The different colors can be literally the entire rainbow, or just a handful of colors. The rainbow effect is fun and engaging.
Rainbow writing is frequently used to reinforce sight words and practice spelling words, but it can absolutely be used with number tracing, too.
The rainbow writing printables have bubble letters that are white inside so your child can color in each letter.
Printable number tracing pages 1-10
As a former classroom educator, I believe strongly in differentiated instruction. That’s why there are several versions of these number tracing printables so your an pick the one that best suits your child’s needs.
For younger children, there are printables in landscape orientation with five numbers per page. These number are larger and easier to trace, and you can use them to introduce just the numbers 1-5 for tracing.
These larger printables are available with dotted number to trace, number formation dotted letters (with arrows), and rainbow writing pages. Each style has two pages with numbers 1-5 on one sheet and 6-10 on the second sheet. There are preview images below so you can see exactly what I mean.
The portrait-orientation printables are also available in several styles. The numbers 1-10 are all on one page in these printables with slightly smaller numbers. These pages are available with dotted tracing numbers and rainbow writing numbers. There are two versions of each: one with a line devoted to each number (1 1 1…) and one with 10 lines of all 10 numbers in order (1 2 3…).
Like all preschool printables on The Artisan Life, these are licensed for personal and single classroom use. You are welcome to use them with your own students, homeschool co-op, therapy clients, etc. as long as you are personally organizing the activity.
You are not licensed to redistribute the files or printouts to other adults for use with their children or students. Please refer your friends and coworkers to this page so they can download their own copies.
There are five individual free download links for the landscape and portrait files. Individual download links are located below each preview image. The links will open in a new tab/window and should start downloading automatically. You may need to authorize downloads from Dropbox if a box appears asking for permission.
If you want all five versions and would like to save time, you can purchase all 10 pages in one handy PDF for the very low price of $1.29. (Keep scrolling a tiny bit more for the individual freebie links.)
