Easy Earth Day craft materials needed
Making your free Earth Day hat is easy. Here's a look at materials you'll need:
- Your free printable Earth Day hat templates (look for the row of purple arrows lower down in the post)
- White paper or white card stock & printer access
- We used my favorite 32# paper. It's more durable than "regular" printer paper but easier to work with than card stock.
- Scissors
- Tape or a glue stick
- I recommend washi tape instead of plastic tape to help celebrate Earth Day
- Crayons, pencils, markers, etc., if you're using the coloring page version
- Fun embellishments, like colored sand, are optional
- Paper trimmer, optional but a time saver
Although staples are quick and easy for putting together printable hats, they tend to catch in hair. I'm personally not a fan of using staples for headband crafts, but it is an option.
There are two different options to pick from. Here's a look at your choices:
How to make an adorable Earth Day crown
The first thing you need to do is get your PDF file with the Earth Day hat template from lower down in the post.
Next, print out the pages you want to use. You may want to print only one of the designs, or you might want to offer the kids a choice. Most younger children will only need one additional headband piece. You only need to print one headband strip page for every 3 or 4 hats you plan to make.
Color the design.
Cut out the crown and additional bands.
Complete the headband with additional bands, as needed, to fit each child's head. Use a piece of tape on the inside and outside of each union for a more durable head band. Washi tape is cute and a more eco-friendly alternative than plastic tapes.
Wear and enjoy! It's the cutest accessory for a school or community Earth Day celebration.
