The Ancient Romans placed May as the third month in their calendar year. (The Roman calendar began in March and had 10 months.)

May was named for the Roman goddess Maia, the goddess of motherhood. Although it's a popular month for weddings today, the Romans considered it to be an unlucky month for weddings.

Today, May is the fifth month of the year. It is the traditional start of summer vacation for many students in the United States, especially in Southern states.

The time between Memorial Day in May and labor Day in September is the traditional "unofficial" summer season. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, it is a time of warmer weather. In some places it can feel downright summery by the end of May!

May important events and dates

There are several holidays and observances in May. None of them are marked on the month calendars so that you can record the holidays you personally observe. Here are some of the major holidays in May:

May Day - May 1
Star Wars Day - May 4
Cinco de Mayo - May 5 (a Mexican holiday, but widely celebrated in the US)
Mother's Day - May 12 in 2024 (second Sunday in May)
Memorial Day (US) - May 27 in 2024 (last Monday of May)

This is a Monday start calendar so that the weekend days are on the same line. The calendars are in portrait orientation.

If you'd prefer to add these pages to a planner that doesn't use standard US letter size paper, no problem!

You just need to print the pages to scale and trim them down with a paper trimmer. You can also print on different paper sizes, if your printer is set up for that, but trimming the page down is easier for most people. I've already done the math for you.
