Staying organized is an absolute must when you're a teacher. If you're a homeschool mom (or dad!), it's particularly important because most states have laws concerning documenting your attendance record and lesson plans.
Having a dedicated homeschool planner in a binder can also save you valuable time because you can keep everything organized all in one place.
This planner can be used for all ages from preschoolers through high schoolers. It has enough color to be fun, but does not have a ton of clip art to use up your expensive colored ink.
This planner isn't specifically designed for any one curriculum, so it can be adapted to fit your personal curriculum choices.
It's easy to customize this curriculum planner by leaving out pages you don't want or adding additional printable planning pages as needed. For example, if you want to use this planner for a Charlotte Mason curriculum, you may want to add a reading list or book lists to your planner. You may want to add additional pages, like a dated printable calendar, to keep yourself on track.
As you're planning remember, that your homeschool journey is your own and that your school days do not need to look like public school days (unless that works well for you).
My dad and grandmother were both teachers so when I was homeschooled, they were very strict about being dressed and at my desk at 8 am. Other people like to homeschool in the afternoons or scatter lessons throughout the day. I know some homeschool moms who "unschool" and count every single day as an attendance day! It's up to what works for your family and record keeping.
Whatever you do, don't be the person who forgets to document their attendance and assignments! Requirements vary by state, so make sure to check your state's legal requirements. Always adhere to due dates for any portfolio reviews or testing your state may have.

How to make your homeschool binder

The easiest way to use your printable homeschool planner is by making yourself a binder to organize your homeschool year .You can easily add pages, organize activities, and keep track of plans for multiple children in a three ring binder with tabbed dividers.
I personally LOVE the Avery 1" view binder. I've always found the Avery binders to be very durable and I love slipping my cover page into the front so I can keep track of what's in the binder. I like to use tabbed dividers with pockets for hanging onto smaller items and notes that aren't easy to hole punch.
- Designed to be stronger and more durable than basic binders, this white heavy-duty binder features a tear-resistant spine (DuraHinge) and more...
- EZD ring holds 40-50% more paper than basic 1 inch binder; 275-sheet capacity
- Secure but easy to open; One Touch EZD rings are back mounted, gap free and release at the touch of a button
I used a ton of my ink to test five different papers to demonstrate the best paper for planner printables. Make sure to check out that post for a side-by-side comparison of papers to see why I never use plain printer paper for printables. The long story short version is that I love HP 32# premium paper. It's thicker than normal paper so it holds up well to use throughout the year.
- Made in USA: HP Papers is sourced from renewable forest resources and has achieved production with 0% deforestation in North America.
- Heavyweight premium printing: HP Premium32 is a heavyweight (32 pounds), brighter (100 bright) and whiter (163 whiteness) paper with a super-smooth...
- Certified sustainable: HP Premium32 presentation paper is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified and contributes toward satisfying credit MR1...
If you'd like, you can resize these printables to fit in a Happy Planner or other planner system. I personally have a Happy Planner, but I prefer to use these pages in a binder.
To resize letter printables to fit a Happy Planner Classic, simply select scale: 83%. Trim away excess with a paper trimmer and use your Happy Planner hole punch.
You can see an arrow pointing to the scale to 83% in the image below from my post with free printable mood trackers:
The pages can also be resided to fit different types of planners. Print your homeschool planning printables to scale using the reference chart below and trim the pages down to size.
If you'd prefer not to print your planner, you can use the PDF file as a digital planner by importing it into your favorite note taking app. It will not be hyperlinked, but you can swipe through the pages and mark them up with a digital planning app. (Want a free hyperlinked planner? Make sure to get this free digital planner for moms.)
